The TAMU Modern Arnis Club
The Club was disbanded around 2004 after Guro Dr. Tye W. Botting moved away to accept employment in Louisiana and later Virginia.
However, you can still get training in Modern Arnis at two local establishments: Montoya's Shorin Kempo Karate under Guro Raymond Montoya (also Hanshi in Shorin Kempo Karate) or the American Academy of Modern Martial Arts under Guro Dr. Michael Hume (also Master Instructor in Taekwondo)
Instructors have been
Guro Dr. Tye W. Botting
(Lakan Dalawa {2nd degree black belt}, Advanced Instructor, Club Founder,
President, Former Staff Advisor),
Guro Dr. Michael Hume
(Lakan Apat {4th degree black belt}, Junior Master Instructor), and
until recently
Guro Abel Martinez
(Lakan Dalawa {2nd degree black belt}, Advanced Instructor, Former Staff Advisor).
We teach Grandmaster Remy Amador Presas' style of Modern Arnis.
Classes are small and intense; we work the material. Using Professor
Presas' Modern Arnis principles, we explore all facets of how all the material
ties together seamlessly, including single cane, double cane, empty hand,
knife, espada y daga, sinawalis, empty-hand translations,
applications, disarms, joint techniques, throws, and much much more. For a
more thorough description, go back to the Modern Arnis
Page and look at the list of material we work on.
If you have any questions or want to contact us, feel free to do so by clicking on the Club Instructors above and sending e-mail - we check it many times a day.
